MTc 2026 Big Book Summer: Capital, vol. 1

We believe that it is never too late or too often to read Marx! This summer we will be gathering once a month to read and discuss Karl Marx’s Capital, vol. 1. We will also be joined by stellar colleagues whose teaching and scholarship engages with Marxism. Our sessions, facilitated by MTC contributing writer Matthew Beeber, will take place on Zoom from 3-5pm ET. Below is the schedule:
June 12th: Part 1: Commodities and Money / Part 2: The Transformation of Money into Capital
July 10th: Part 3: The Production of Absolute Surplus-Value / Part 4: The Production of Relative Surplus-Value
Aug 14th: Part 5: The Production of Absolute and Relative Surplus-value / Part 6: Wages (guest: Sarah Brouillette)
Sept. 4: Part 7: The Process of Accumulation of Capital/ Part 8: So-Called Primitive Accumulation (guest: Peter Coviello)
Our facilitator will be using the Penguin Classics edition of Capital. Whether this your first time reading Capital or your hundredth time, we can’t wait to read this important work with you.
